About Auriel

Angela Buck

Angela Buck is the author of “the Magic Sunglasses” and founder of "The Magic Sunglasses Project"

Angela Buck (writing as Auriel Blanche) trained as a teacher at Exeter University, after completing her BSc in Horticulture at London University. She has taught and worked in central Africa in food production, completing work for a PhD with London University, working in Malawi on trials for tomatoes – one of the main staples in local diet there.

Angela is 65 years old , divorced, has one daughter Arabella, and lives in South West London. She has a property portfolio she built over the last six years and works out at Tooting gym 3-5 times a week. Her interests are meeting and learning about people, helping to support self sufficiency in the most practical terms, dancing, Japanese food, clothes, having fun and keeping fit. And of course her lovely friends and family!

Angela’s career has been varied and exciting – working in publishing, running her own pearl jewellery business in Hatton Garden and launching a leisurewear company, AB Leisurewear, developing her own designs and a full range of lifestyle characters, based on her own original creations.

She has a keen interest in how the right self development can increase self worth and really improve quality and enjoyment of life, especially for children. With this in mind, she wrote Magic Sunglasses and is now developing even more interactive concepts for children.

The next project is called Hunnybuns World for 3-6 years. It is completely interactive multi-racial and international. Angela worked with local nurseries and primary schools on Hunnybun’s World to create material many teachers found to be fun for the children and suitable for a national educational curriculum.

Described by one associate as "a whirlwind in constant motion," Angela first had the idea for "Magic Sunglasses" project several years ago when she realized that children's image reinforcement and self-esteem development were important and often overlooked areas. They were also areas well suited to her skills and experience.

Determined to find a way to help young people recognize and value their own inner abilities, she developed "The Magic Sunglasses" concept. The main aim is to help young people "empower" themselves in a natural and light-hearted way - and learn how they can use this to live happy satisfying lives.

Samantha, the main character in the book is a shy slightly plump little girl of 9 who dares to dream that she can be successful – that she too can be discovered, just like the stars she sees on TV.

Samantha then finds the Magic Sunglasses on a stall at the Saturday market– wonderful crazy glasses with a strange and marvelous power. After many amazing adventures, while all the time being guided and supported by the power of the Magic Sunglasses, Samantha realises that she doesn’t need the Sunglasses anymore, as she has learnt to develop and rely on the special power within herself. It is time to pass them on now – so they can help someone else with a special dream – perhaps someone like you?

It is this philosophy that is the underlying principle of Angela Buck's book and her own life. And so, Angela is looking to design and set up workshops for schools worldwide working with, and taking advice from, local and world educators, to make "The Magic Sunglasses" and its concepts, part of the global community's framework for children

"A simple but flexible programme to be used in schools worldwide - be it a mud hut or central New York - so that all children can be aware that each one of them is of special value and how to use this fact to live happy lives."

Angela would love to hear from anyone who feels an affinity and synergy with her vision ...
